TimeWise Privacy Policy

Effective Date: January 16, 2025

1. Introduction

TimeWise ("TimeWise," "we," "us," or "I") is developed and operated by Tristan, an individual developer. This Privacy Policy explains how TimeWise collects, uses, stores, and protects your information when you use the TimeWise application ("App").

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

A. Information You Provide Directly:

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, username, and a password. Your password is encrypted and stored using industry-standard hashing algorithms.
  • Task Data: We collect information you enter into the App related to your tasks, subtasks, project names, descriptions, due dates, and any other details you provide.

B. Information Collected Automatically:

  • Device Information: We collect your user agent for each session to help with debugging and improving the user experience.
  • Cookies: We use session cookies to maintain your login state and a cookie to remember your dark mode preference. Session cookies are temporary and are deleted when you close your browser.

C. Information from Third Parties:

  • Google Account Information: To enable Google Calendar integration, we use Google's OAuth 2.0 protocol to request access to your Google account. We specifically request the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events.owned scope. This scope grants us permission to view and edit events on calendars you own. We only access the minimum data necessary to provide the calendar integration feature, such as event titles, descriptions, and start and end times. We also use Google's Large Language Models (LLMs) to facilitate the breakdown of high-level tasks into subtasks.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To Provide and Maintain the App: We use your task data and account information to operate the core functionality of the App, including creating tasks, breaking them down into subtasks, and syncing with Google Calendar if you choose to enable this feature. We use Google's LLMs to analyze your project name (a high-level description) and suggest a breakdown of the project into smaller tasks.
  • To Improve the App: We analyze usage patterns, device information, and error logs to identify bugs, improve performance, develop new features, and personalize your experience.
  • To Communicate with You: We use your email address to send you service-related announcements, updates, and other important information about your account or the App. We do not currently engage in marketing communications.

4. How We Share Information

We do not share your information with any third-party services, except as outlined below:

  • Google: We share data with Google for the following purposes:
    • OAuth 2.0: To authenticate your Google account and enable Google Calendar integration.
    • LLMs: To facilitate the breakdown of high-level tasks into subtasks.
  • Service Providers: While our website and database are self-hosted on local servers, we use MxRoute to host our email services. We do not store any user data on MxRoute's servers besides email addresses.

We may also disclose your information:

  • For Legal Reasons: If required by law or to respond to a valid legal process (e.g., a subpoena or court order).
  • To Protect Rights and Prevent Harm: To protect the rights, property, or safety of TimeWise, our users, or others, or to prevent fraud or abuse.

5. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. These measures include:

  • Encryption: We use HTTPS to encrypt data transmitted between your browser and our servers. Passwords are encrypted using industry-standard hashing algorithms.

6. Your Rights and Choices

  • Access and Correction: You can access and update your account information and task data within the App.
  • Data Deletion: You can delete your account and associated data by contacting us at tristan@timewiseai.app.
  • Revoking Google Calendar Access: You can revoke TimeWise's access to your Google Calendar data at any time through your Google account settings or by deleting your account on TimeWise.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a prominent notice within the App. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
